Delaware corporation Online public-benefit education

Knowledge changes what happens next.

A summons starts a clock. A notice closes doors you may not see yet. Most people learn the rules after the rules have already cost them something. The Society is developing public education that teaches the words, the deadlines, and the choices first. It also plans to teach people how to check an AI answer and turn hard-won knowledge into honest work.

Learn it before the court date. Use it during the case. Keep it for the next one.

The mission

The rules still apply. Knowledge makes them usable.

Free lawyers cannot sit beside everyone who needs one. So people walk into summonses, notices, and hearings one of two ways: cold, or prepared.

Confusion is expensive, and it compounds. Miss one deadline and a default follows. Skip one photo and a true defense has nothing to prove it. Ask the wrong question and you pay for help after it can no longer change the outcome. Run that chain backward and the savings compound instead: know the obligation early, protect the record, and spend limited money on the help that actually moves the case. Better outcomes start with better decisions about what to file, what to keep, what to fight, and when to call a lawyer.

The Society's planned education is for people who do not have a lawyer in the family, a tech expert on call, or a friend who knows how things really work.

Legal education comes first. The Society has not yet operated a program. The existing Just Us Bridge work described below predates the Society's proposed adoption of it.

Three ways knowledge protects and creates value

Protect your position. Verify AI. Put knowledge to work.

Existing Just Us Bridge library / Proposed Society license

Litigation Literacy

People who go to court without a lawyer learn to spot the legal problem, answer the paper, protect the facts, and make the next move in the right order. Forms fill in a blank. Strategy wins the case. The goal is plain: fewer blown deadlines, fewer wasted dollars, and better calls before, during, and after a case.

  • Civil procedure and legal research
  • Eviction and debt-collection education
  • Deadlines, evidence, filings, and help decisions
  • Video, short-form learning, and knowledge checks

Proposed Society program 02 / Legal AI literacy

Legal AI Verification

AI will invent a case, misquote a rule, or skip the one that controls, and it will sound sure the whole time. The proposed course would teach people to treat every AI legal answer as a rumor until the source, the citation, the date, the jurisdiction, and the stage of the case all check out.

Law-specific verification for research, drafting, and creative work

Proposed Society program 03 / Knowledge to income

Knowledge-to-Income

Everyone is carrying something valuable: what the job taught them, what caregiving taught them, what recovery, a trade, or a courtroom taught them the hard way. The proposed training would help people shape those gifts and lessons into services, teaching, media, research, and products that solve real problems, lawfully.

From natural ability and lived experience to useful work

Reach and learning

People used the legal information they needed.

These are results from the earlier Just Us Bridge program, produced outside the Society. Nearly 1,000 people signed up, and about 47% watched at least one video, based on program registration and platform records. People who finished the full course took a test at the start and at the end, and their average score rose from 66% to 83%. The notices lesson rose from 54% to 88%. They are not Society program results.

nearly 1,000

program signups

From the program's own registration records.

about 47%

watched one or more videos

One topic, right when you need it, counts. Nobody has to finish a course to be helped.

66% to 83%

full-course learning

Average score from intake to final exam, for learners who took both.

54% to 88%

notices module

Average score in the short lesson on eviction notices.

Reach and learning are different measures.

Reach counts anyone who watched at least one video. The test scores come only from people who took both tests. One number shows who got help. The other shows how much they learned. We keep them separate on purpose.

How the training works

Find the rule. Check the source. Choose the next move.

  1. Find Find the right question and rule.

Pin down the facts, the deadline, the court, and the jurisdiction before you ask AI anything or make a move.

  2. Check Check every answer.

Open the actual law. Trace every citation. Make sure it is still good law. Keep private facts private.

  3. Act Use verified knowledge.

Then prepare, decide, teach, and build work people value.

The urgent legal AI problem

AI can sound certain and still be wrong.

AI can make up a case, a quote, or a rule and hand it over in a confident voice. It can miss the controlling authority, lean on old law, or leak private facts. A lawyer who files that output answers to a judge. A person without a lawyer has no one standing between the machine and the filing. That empty chair is why this training is urgent.

The Society proposes to teach people to use AI the way careful lawyers must: as a fast first draft that always gets checked. The ABA already requires lawyers to understand these risks and verify the work themselves. Read ABA Formal Opinion 512

Federal recognition and governance

The public records are here.

Check the record before relying on a tax claim. The IRS issued a determination letter on July 11, 2023, recognizing exemption effective March 17, 2023. After missed annual notices, the Society submitted and paid for a Form 1023-EZ reinstatement application on September 22, 2026. The IRS has not yet issued a new determination. The historical letter is not proof of current tax-deductible status. The Society is not accepting contributions or pledges through this site.

Why this work exists

Built from experience inside the system.

Jim Winner learned the system the hard way: years of representing himself, watching plain words turn into traps inside legal procedure.

That lesson became Just Us Bridge, a Chicago legal-education show produced by Professional Litigant, Inc. before the Society took up the mission. The Society and the company are separate legal entities. The Society has not licensed Just Us Bridge, operated its courses, contracted for production, or received the program's revenue. A future license or service arrangement would need its own written terms and approvals.

The Society is building the governance, reporting, and teaching systems for future education. The existing Just Us Bridge library and the proposals linked here show what a licensed program could become. They are not current Society operations.

A future education model

Study the proposal before the launch.

The Just Us Bridge library shows how legal lessons can work on screen. The Society is considering a future license and separate education programs. No Society program, license, or fundraising campaign is active. The Society is not asking for or accepting money or pledges through this site.

Read the partnership brief Proposals for review, not a funding request.

Plain answers

Questions and answers.

What does Professional Litigant Society provide?

The Society is planning litigation-literacy and legal-AI education. It has not yet operated a program. Earlier Just Us Bridge work belongs to the separate producer, Professional Litigant, Inc.; a license to the Society remains a proposal.

How do you measure reach and learning?

The figures on this site belong to the earlier Just Us Bridge program, not the Society. About 47% of people who signed up watched at least one video. Among learners who took both tests, scores rose from 66% to 83%. In the notices lesson, scores rose from 54% to 88%.

How can legal knowledge save money?

It helps people catch deadlines, keep their evidence, avoid doing the same work twice, and decide early what they can handle themselves and when a lawyer is worth the money.

How is AI taught?

AI output is treated as unverified work. Learners define the question and jurisdiction, demand primary sources, open every citation, confirm quotations and current law, protect private facts, and keep a human responsible for the final work.

Where can I review the Society's records?

The public-records section has the original IRS determination letter and the submitted reinstatement application's status. The IRS has not yet issued a new determination. More governance records will be posted as they are finalized.
